We wanted to go the non-traditional route (no surprise there, right?) and take advantage of the beautiful Minneapolis summers while going as green and socially responsible as we can, so it seemed only fitting to hold our ceremony at Theodore Wirth Park.
FUN FACT: with 759 acres it is by far the largest park in the Minneapolis parks system, and 90% the size of Central Park in New York! Another FUN FACT: it was named after Theodore Wirth, who was instrumental in the local parks movement in the US during the late 1800s/early 1900s and who, unlike earlier park planners, believed that parks should be used by the residents.
HIGHLIGHTS of the park include a swimming lake and beach, the “Quaking Bog” natural wetland area, a wildflower and bird sanctuary, 2 golf courses, and tons of trails for walking, biking, and cross-country skiing. When in the park you can completely forget that you’re actually in the city! We hope that you take advantage of the time between the ceremony and the reception to explore this beautiful park, and in fact, we’ll have some games and fun in store for you.
WHERE TO FIND US: The ceremony will be held at the “wedding hill”, in a wooded area on a hill directly across the street from the parking lot for the Quaking Bog and next to Birch Pond, close to the Eloise Butler Wildflower Sanctuary (on Theodore Wirth Parkway).
NOTE: In case of rain, the ceremony will be held at the reception location.
