Meghan
Meghan (or to many, MPC) was born in Hollywood, CA, and raised in the sleepy hollow of Doylestown, PA (about 25 miles due north of Philadelphia). After graduating from Gettysburg College, where she majored in African Studies and International Development and studied/interned in France, Uganda/Rwanda, and Kenya, she spent a year in Los Angeles living in intentional community and coordinating children’s programs at a Community House as a Presbyterian Young Adult Volunteer. Ready for more adventure, she moved to the Twin Cities to work at Concordia University as an AmeriCorps*VISTA for two years, coordinating service-learning and volunteer opportunities for students.
She now works for the Saint Paul Area Council of Churches to bring youth from many different religious backgrounds together to explore what it means to live in a pluralistic world and to come together for common action for the common good through service-learning and activism. She is also working on her masters in Community Change and Civic Leadership at Antioch University McGregor. Meghan enjoys photography, reading, piano and guitar, gardening, cooking, and beating Mike at pretty much all word games.
FUN FACT: she has been to 43 states and her car has been to 38!
Michael
Mike was born in Sault Sainte Marie, MI, and grew up in a small town outside of Des Moines, IA. In 1991 his family moved to Hudson, WI, where he graduated high school. He spent his senior year as a Rotary exchange student in Stanghella, Italy, a small town about 50 miles from Venice. Mike went to the University of Minnesota-Twin Cities, where he majored in History and Italian and spent another year studying in Bologna, Italy. After college, he became an AmeriCorps*VISTA, organizing low-income tenants and helping them better understand their rights.
Since his VISTA year he has worked at the Minnesota Coalition for the Homeless, where he does community organizing with people experiencing homelessness, service providers, and others committed to ending homelessness. He recently graduated from law school and passed the bar. Mike enjoys fixing and building things (like houses), political debate, Magic (the card game) and Monopoly, and chowing down on Meghan’s delicious homecooked food.
FUN FACT: he has competed in the National Monopoly Championship! He also loves the fact that Meghan is equally enamored with cats, as we have 3 of them....
